FARMER - General Information

01 - What advantages do I get from HEALTHY FIELDS?

HEALTHY FIELDS takes over the planning of fungicide and growth regulator measures in terms of timing, dosage and product selection. These measures are carried out by a contractor. The farmer is spared the planning and execution of the measure with risk minimization through the HEALTHY FIELDS? guarantee.

02 - What are my tasks as a farmer?
  • Register free of charge on www.xarvio.com for the FIELD MANAGER and lay out your fields.
  • Select the wheat fields to be protected by HEALTHY FIELDS.
  • Decide on a price package - Basic or Premium.
  • Suggest a contractor you trust or ask xarvio to find one for you.
  • As soon as a contractor is chosen for your fields, HEALTHY FIELDS will take care of the health of your fields.
  • You will receive a framework contract by e-mail. Please sign it and send it back to HEALTHY FIELDS - BASF Digital Farming GmbH, Albrecht-Thaer-Strasse 34, 48147 Muenster, Germany 
  • You will receive a confirmation e-mail with the HEALTHY FIELDS service voucher for your fields and the service guarantee as soon as the contract has reached us.
  • The contractor starts the season with the treatment of your fields at the optimal time. Follow the planned and implemented measures transparently in the field manager.
  • Our HEALTHY FIELDS promise guarantees you a leaf health on the yield relevant leaf levels (F & F-1) of at least 80% at BBCH stage 69.
  • Please download the xarvio Scouting App in the App Store and register with your Field Manager login details. You will receive a message when your fields have reached BBCH stage 69 and you should check the health of your fields. 
  • You now have 4 days to tell us if the green leaf mass is at least 80%. If not, we will send an independent agronomist to your field. 
  • If a damage occurs and the agronomist confirms it, we will be liable to you under our performance guarantee.
  • After the season you will receive an invoice for your HEALTHY FIELDS fields.
03 - What are the advantages of using forecasting systems?

Decision support systems have been justified in modern agriculture for decades. They are a recognized component of integrated crop protection. Forecasting systems enable economic savings with ecological advantages.

04 - What does the leaf health guarantee include?

Our Guarantee Assurance assures a leaf health of at least 80% on the yield relevant leaf levels (F & F-1) at BBCH stage 69. If the calculated strategy does not keep your fields sufficiently healthy, we will compensate for the damage incurred in accordance with the terms of our Performance Guarantee.

05 - For which crops is HEALTHY FIELDS available?

For the 2020 season HEALHY FIELDS will be available for winter wheat only. Other crops will follow.

06 - What else do I have to do for an area that I have designated for HEALTHY FIELDS?

HEALTHY FIELDS takes care of the fungicide and growth regulator measures. Sowing, fertilization, herbicide and insecticide measures should be taken care of by yourself or your contractor. When you reach BBCH 69, you should check your crop with our Scouting App for the promised leaf health.

07 - Which diseases are covered?

The FIELD MANAGER models cover all fungal diseases relevant for winter wheat cultivation. This includes eye spot, mildew, yellow rust, septoria leaf blotch, brown rust, tan spot and fusarium head blight. However, leaf health can only be guaranteed for foliar diseases.

08 - In which regions is HEALTHY FIELDS available?

HEALTHY FIELDS will initially be available in Germany. Whether HEALTHY FIELDS will be offered in your region will also depend on the availability of a certified contractor. xarvio will try to find one for you.

09 - How is the contractor certified for HEALTHY FIELDS?

A contractor is certified for HEALTHY FIELDS when a personal onboarding with xarvio, the farm manager and the drivers has taken place. During the onboarding, among other things, the spraying technology is checked for suitability, the drivers receive training for the FIELD MANAGER and training for the documentation of crop protection measures in the FIELD MANAGER. Only a HEALTHY FIELDS certified contractor can offer HEALTHY FIELDS to his customers.

10 - Can farmers also use xarvio HEALTHY FIELDS or only contractors?

Farmers can also register for HEALTHY FIELDS and create their own wheat fields. However, the application of growth regulators and fungicides must be carried out by a contractor.

FARMER - pricing information

01 - What is included in the HEALTHY FIELDS price?

Included in the price are Pesticide costs (including growth regulator), contractor costs, leaf health guarantee.

FARMER - information on performance guarantee

01 - What does the HEALTHY FIELDS leaf health guarantee include?

Our guarantee commitment ensures at least 80% leaf health on the yield relevant leaf levels (F & F-1) at BBCH stage 69. If the calculated strategy does not keep your fields sufficiently healthy, we will compensate for the damage according to the terms of our performance guarantee (Subdivision into classes).

FARMER - information to the contract

01 - How are the contracts, that I as a farmer conclude with xarvio, structured?

First of all, the contract regulates the services that xarvio provides in the farmer's fields. This involves the application of fungicides and growth regulators within the framework of a service contract. Xarvio undertakes in this respect to carry out these services professionally. The contract corresponds to the classic activity of a contractor. In addition, however, xarvio also provides an extra-mandatory guarantee for the success of the fungicide strategy, namely the promised leaf health of more than 80% regarding possible fungal infestation on the terms of our performance guarantee.

02 - Why does xarvio conclude a contract with both the farmer and the contractor?

Farmer and contractor are two separate parties and xarvio is in between. xarvio enters into a contract with the farmer to apply the fungicides and growth regulators in the fields and to give him a performance guarantee. However, these services are not only provided by xarvio itself, but xarvio selects a contractor to provide these services on the field. Therefore, xarvio must also conclude a contract with the contractor.

FARMER - Before the season

01 - How do I register with HEALTHY FIELDS?

First you register in the Field Manager (if you don't have an account yet). After registration you create your wheat fields and can then select the fields for which HEALTHY FIELDS should be booked. Already now you will be shown the estimated costs and a non-binding offer can be requested. In the last step you can specify a contractor or xarvio will select a suitable contractor for you. As soon as we have found a qualified contractor, we will confirm your request and send you the framework contract for signature.

02 - Can I choose a contractor?

You can suggest your own contractor when you register, and he will be contacted and certified by xarvio. You can also invite your contractor to HEALTHY FIELDS via the invitation function. If you do not have your own contractor, xarvio will suggest service providers from your region.

03 - What requirements must a contractor meet for HEALTHY FIELDS certification?

The spraying technology should support working with ISOBUS jobs. Alternatively, it is also possible to document the job with another data format (for example, with the JohnDeere format or with the Shapefile format). In addition, the farm manager and drivers should attend an onboarding appointment and training. Proof of expertise and work in accordance with good professional practice are a matter of course.

04 - Is a field history required?

For the correct agronomic evaluation, we need the current location, variety, sowing date, yield potential, previous crop and tillage system. You specify these when you create your fields.

05 - Is there a limit on the number and size of fields for which I can receive a HEALTHY FIELDS offer?

You can get a HEALTHY FIELDS offer for an unlimited number of fields. In total you must select at least 10 hectares of land.

06 - Until when can I book HEALTHY FIELDS for my wheat fields?

Until 1st of March, an extension is possible by individual arrangement.

07 - Can I get an introduction or training for the FIELD MANAGER?

08 - When must I share my farm with my contractor?

After successful conclusion of a contract with xarvio you must share your farm with your contractor.

09 - How do I share my farm with my contractor?

Either you already have a xarvio contractor of your choice or we assign one to you. You can share your farm via a tab ('Collaboration') in the Field Manager. In the following you must enter the contractor's e-mail address to grant him full access to your farm.

10 - What are the farmer's obligations to cooperate?

To provide our services properly, the farmer must fulfil the cooperation obligations agreed in the contract in a timely and proper manner (sharing the farm, ensuring that xarvio or the contractor can access the area, etc.). If these obligations are not fulfilled xarvio is released from its obligations to the farmer and his area.

FARMER - In-season

01 - Who carries out the measures on my fields?

The measures are carried out by a certified contractor. You can either invite him or xarvio will suggest a suitable contractor.

02 - What are VRA maps?

VRA maps (Variable Rate Application) are site-specific application maps that allow a more effective, variable application of fungicides and growth regulators in the field. They are generated via the biomass maps of the FIELD MANAGER and can be downloaded. The map is then loaded onto the terminal and controls the application rate for each field zone.

03 - Can my fields also be treated without a VRA card?

The use of VRA within HEALTHY FIELDS is optional. If your contractor's spraying equipment does not support VRA cards, your area can be treated with a flat rate sprayer.

04 - Who selects the products for the specific application?

The optimal products are automatically selected by xarvio.

05 - Who documents the measures?

The documentation of the measures on your areas is carried out by the contractor in the Field Manager and can be viewed by you at any time.

06 - What is documented?

All legally relevant data such as area, product name, application rate, application date and user name are documented.

07 - Who will enter my field?

For the execution of the crop protection measure the contractor or the driver responsible for the measure will enter the area. In order to keep a close eye on the fields over the season and to ensure the best possible crop protection strategy, we reserve the right to send xarvio, BASF employees and external technicians to the areas for assessment purposes.

08 - Who decides whether 2 or 3 measures should be carried out?

Based on the weather and field-specific data, the FIELD MANAGER analyzes the disease pressure on your fields and uses these calculations to derive application recommendations in order to provide your field with optimum protection. The number of applications results from our weather-based forecast models.

09 - What happens if a treatment recommendation is made but my field is impassable?

There are factors that cannot be influenced by the various parties. We reserve the right to withdraw from our performance guarantee in individual cases due to force majeure, impassability of the area (due to persistent wetness) or drastic weather events (hail damage, etc.).

10 - How can I find out about upcoming and already completed measures?

In the Field Manager or the Field Manager App you can track all actions throughout the season and view all relevant information.

FARMER - After the spraying season

01 - How can I make a warranty claim in the event of damage?

If you find a stronger disease infestation on your areas and we did not provide the promised plant health, you can document this with the Scouting App and send it to us. If the leaf health at BBCH stage 69 onwards does not correspond to our promise, the infestation level will be validated by an external examiner in your field and if necessary, we will compensate accordingly.

02 - How do I get access to the Scouting App?

You can easily download the Scouting App from the App-Store. It is free of charge. To log in you should use your login data for the Field Manager. This way the pictures from the Scouting app can be assigned to your areas.

03 - How can I as a farmer control my HEALTHY FIELDS area and share the results with xarvio?

At the end of the season a message is sent at EC 69 via the Field Manager to control the area. The xarvio Scouting App should be used to check the area (with the login data of the Field Manager). Take pictures of F and F-1 to determine the leaf health. We will send you an assessment protocol during the season.

04 - When does the Scouting App have to be used to check plant health and green leaf area?

You can check your fields at any time during the season. The date for the final assessment (BBCH 69) will be communicated to you via the Field Manager App. A warranty claim must be reported within 4 working days. With the Scouting App you can take pictures of your crops. The leaf health on each leaf day is calculated by the Green Leaf Area Index.

05 - Why is EC/BBCH 69 assessed?

For organizational reasons, an earlier date than usual for a final assessment was chosen. The farmer is given a time window of 4 days to check our promise. If necessary, a further assessment by an independent technician may be necessary. In order to ensure a smooth process and usable results, a little more lead time is therefore necessary.

06 - What happens if I am not satisfied with the results of my field?

This review is shared with the HF team via the Field Manager. An external technician is then promptly sent to the field to validate the result in representative locations. This result is then used for further steps.

07 - When do I have to contact xarvio if the leaf health does not meet the HEALTHY FIELDS warranty?

In general, you can always contact us and send us information about your crop, especially if the leaf health does not meet your or our expectations. In general, however, you should do the final check within 4 days of our call.

08 - How is the assessment carried out?

After you have informed us that the guaranteed leaf health has not been maintained (by taking pictures at several locations in your crop stand with the Scouting App), we will send an external technician to your field. The neutral expert will assess your field according to the principles of Good Professional Practice. The assessment method is based on the EPPO standards for the respective pathogens. The number of rating points depends on the size of the field, the field geometry and the number of different biomass zones. The assessment is carried out in such a way that a representative statement can be made about the occurrence of diseases in the crop stand. The minimum number of assessments per field is 15 assessment points (area < 5 ha), 20 assessment points (area between 15 and 20 ha) and 25 assessment points (areas > 15 ha). It is checked whether the leaf health on F & F-1 is at least 80% or less. Our HEALTHY FIELDS guarantee applies if the leaf health is below 80%. The result is then used to determine the necessary compensation in the event of damage.

FARMER – information on data protection

01 - How is my data protected?

The protection of your privacy and your data is very important to us. Therefore, we work exclusively with ISO-certified service providers. For example, our cloud provider is certified according to ISO 9001, 27001, 27017 and 27018, which guarantees outstanding data protection.

02 - What data does the farmer provide for FIELD MANAGER, what data does xarvio provide?

The farmer enters the variety, the sowing date, the previous crop and the expected yield. He can also adjust the BBCH stage and enter infection observations. The risk of pests/diseases is then recalculated. Based on weather data, xarvio provides the pest forecasts and appropriate recommendations. In addition, satellite images (up to 4 per week in the season) are generated in order to implement the variable treatment.

03 - What data does FIELD MANAGER use to generate recommendations?

We collect data from various sources on plant nutrition, satellite images and soil and weather-related modelling. These data are supplemented by knowledge gained over the years on the effectiveness of e.g. crop protection products and field information such as variety and previous crop. We ensure that all information in the system is always up-to-date and reliable.

CONTRACTOR – General Information

01 - What advantages does HEALTHY FIELDS offer to my customer?

Finding the right fungicide & growth regulator strategy is not always easy. xarvio HEALTHY FIELDS determines for your customers both an optimized fungicide strategy to control leaf diseases in winter wheat and the right application timing and product selection for the use of growth regulators. The strategy is determined by xarvio (weather-based and field-zone- specific), you execute it. The optimized recommendation will protect your customer's crop in the best possible way. You receive fair payment and digital tools for planning, implementation and documentation of the application.

02 - What advantages do I get from HEALTHY FIELDS?

03 - What are my tasks as a contractor?

  • Arrange a meeting with the xarvio team to conclude the contract and become a certified contractor (including training for your drivers) (+49 30 22957857). Enable your customers to benefit from HEALTHY FIELDS.
  • Download the FIELD MANAGER mobile app in the App Store and register.
  • Inform your farmers that you offer HEALTHY FIELDS (you can get information material from the customer support: healthyfields@xarvio.info; hotline: +49 3022957857).  
  • Motivate farmers to register in FIELD MANAGER to become your HEALTHY FIELDS customer. In FIELD MANAGER you can invite your customers via the invitation function.  
  • Become part of the HEALTHY FIELDS network of contractors and receive orders from your region 
  • Receive field-zone-specific application orders from xarvio and execute them within 3 days of good professional practice.
  • Check the documentation of the treatment in FIELD MANAGER.

CONTRACTOR – Information on Payment

01 - How am I compensated?

Before the season start, an individual fixed price for the crossings is negotiated and jointly determined in the introductory meeting. At the end of the season, the remuneration is based on the agreed fixed price, the number of applications and the area managed within the framework of HEALTHY FIELDS.

Unless otherwise stipulated in the framework agreement, payment of this remuneration covers all services provided by the contractor.

02 - How are the plant protection products invoiced?

In addition to the services provided, the contractor is entitled to invoice xarvio for the crop protection products specified by xarvio in the amount of the purchase price paid by the contractor. xarvio is only obliged to refund the purchase price in the amount of the usual purchase price unless the parties have agreed otherwise. The contractor is not entitled to charge other charges on the purchase price.

CONTRACTOR – Information on the contract

01 - With whom do I contract?

As a HEALTHY FIELDS contractor, you only conclude a contract with xarvio (not with the farmer). Within the framework of an agreed meeting you will clarify the mutual general conditions with xarvio.

CONTRACTOR – In the off-season

01 - How can I invite my own customers?

Using the invitation function in FIELD MANAGER under the HEALTHY FIELDS tab you can invite your customers to use HEALTHY FIELDS. They will then receive a link via E-mail that leads them directly to the registration of xarvio FIELD MANAGER. After they have registered and entered their fields, your customers can suggest you as a contractor when they register for HEALTHY FIELDS.

02 - Until when do my customers have to register?

Your farmers should have registered their fields for HEALTHY FIELDS by 1 March. An extension is possible by individual arrangement.

03 - Do I need special technical equipment to be able to offer HEALTHY FIELDS?

In addition to your sprayer you need a smartphone with the FIELD MANAGER app and a FIELD MANAGER account. If you want to carry out the applications field-zone-specific, your terminal and your sprayer have to support the processing of application maps. To document the applications in FIELD MANAGER, the terminal of your sprayer must offer the possibility to export documentation data. This is possible with the most terminals on the market.

04 - What do I need the FIELD MANAGER app for?

The FIELD MANAGER app shows you all relevant data for the implementation of the recommended tasks (time, dosage, fields, products to be used, recipes for the tank mix...). The FIELD MANAGER app is also used for the documentation.

05 - How do I get access to the field data of my customers?

The field data will be shared with you by your customer after signing the contract in FIELD MANAGER.

06 - What is the HEALTHY FIELDS certification?

A contractor with HEALTHY FIELDS certification can offer HEALTHY FIELDS to his customers. A contractor applies for HEALTHY FIELDS certification when a personal onboarding with xarvio, the farm manager and the drivers has taken place. During the onboarding, among other things, the spraying technology is tested for suitability, the drivers receive training for the FIELD MANAGER and for the documentation of crop protection measures in the FIELD MANAGER.

07 - What requirements must a contractor meet for HEALTHY FIELDS certification?

09 - What are VRA maps?

Variable Rate Application (VRA) maps are zone-specific application maps that enable more effective variable application of fungicides and growth regulators in the field. They are generated from the FIELD MANAGER`S biomass maps and can also be downloaded from the FIELD MANAGER. The map is downloaded to the sprayer terminal. The use of VRA cards is optional. If your sprayer cannot process VRA cards, you can still use HEALTHY FIELDS as a contractor.

10 - How can VRA maps be loaded onto the sprayer?

You can transfer the map wirelessly to your sprayer terminal via Agrirouter or myJohnDeere. Alternatively, the maps can be transferred using a USB stick. Instructions for different terminals can be found at https://fm.xarvio.com/terminals/gb/en_gb/select. Extensive training is also provided as part of your onboarding.

11 - Can HEALTHY FIELDS areas be treated without a VRA map?

The use of VRA within HEALTHY FIELDS is optional. Even without a VRA-capable syringe you can offer HEALTHY FIELDS to your customers.

12 - Do I have to pay to use the FIELD MANAGER?

If you use HEALTHY FIELDS as a contractor, you do not have to pay for the FIELD MANAGER.

CONTRACTOR – In the season

01 - Which services have I to provide as a contractor during the season?

During the season you regularly check whether the FIELD MANAGER gives an application recommendation for one of the HEALTHY FIELDS fields. You will also receive automated notifications via the FIELD MANAGER app. 

As soon as one or more application recommendations are available, you plan tasks in the FIELD MANAGER. This can also be done in the FIELD MANAGER app. For each HEALTHY FIELDS field, for which a treatment recommendation exists, you create a task.

All products required for the application, which are not available in sufficient quantities in your warehouse, have to be ordered by you in time, so that the applications can be carried out at the latest 3 days after the planned date of implementation.

02 - How do I apply a task for a HEALTHY FIELDS area?

As soon as an application recommendation for a HEALTHY FIELDS area is available and you execute it, you should first enter the task in the FIELD MANAGER. To do this, create a new crop protection task and select a date for the application.

In the next step you choose one of the product mixtures given by the FIELD MANAGER. In consultation with xarvio, other crop protection products (insecticides, herbicides and growth regulators) can also be added.

You can decide whether the area should be treated field-zone-specific or uniformly. If you treat specific areas, you must provide additional information about the nozzles used. You can also specify whether buffer zones should be included, and you can specify a water application rate. For HEALTHY FIELDS fields the spray rates of the products cannot be changed.

In the last step you will receive a summary of your task including a tank mixing recipe. If you are treating field-zone-specific, you can select a suitable biomass map here. You can view the recipe in the task manager of the FIELD MANAGER and download it as a PDF document.

03 - Who selects the products for the respective application?

The optimal products are selected by xarvio. xarvio provides you with suitable tank mixtures. The tank mix must not be changed without consulting xarvio. The addition of herbicides, insecticides, or other products is also only permitted after consultation with xarvio.

04 - How do I get the products for the upcoming task?

You order the products from a crop protection retailer of your choice.

05 - What do I have to do if the products are not available at my regional retailer?

Please report this immediately to the HEALTHY FIELDS team. They will find an alternative with you and coordinate it.

06 - Where can I see the tank mix and download a recipe?

You can view the recipe in the task manager of the FIELD MANAGER and download it as a PDF document.

07 - What do I have to consider when carrying out a plant protection task for a HEALTHY FIELDS field?

The execution of plant protection tasks on HEALTHY FIELDS fields must be documented within the terminal. ISOBUS orders are preferably used for this. Therefore, ISOBUS orders are created automatically when you create the tasks in the FIELD MANAGER. All you have to do is copy the tasks to a USB stick and use them on the terminal of your syringe while you are treating the field. After crossing the field, the files (including the documentation files created by the terminal) have to be transferred from the USB stick back into FIELD MANAGER. If the appropriate hardware is available, the Agrirouter or myJohnDeere can also be used for the data transfer.

In coordination with xarvio, other documentation formats can also be used. A detailed coordination and training will take place during the obligatory onboarding before the start of the season.

08 - Are the legal plant protection requirements being met?

Yes, xarvio ensures that all legal requirements are met when selecting products.

09 - Who documents the measures?

The documentation of the applications on the HEALTHY FIELDS fields is carried out by the driver in the FIELD MANAGER app and can be viewed by the farmer at any time.

10 - Does the contractor have to follow the application specification of HEALTHY FIELDS or can he make changes?

The contractor has to follow the application recommendation of xarvio HEALTHY FIELDS. If an application cannot be carried out immediately due to external circumstances (weather, wetness, frost, ...), a new date for an application will be set up in consultation with xarvio. The guaranty remains valid. If the treatment cannot be carried out due to long periods of precipitation or other reasons, we reserve the right to let the guaranty expire.

CONTRACTOR – After the season

01 - Who pays the contractor?

xarvio pays the contractor an area-based remuneration for properly performed services. The remuneration is paid per assigned crossing.

In addition, to the services rendered the contractor is entitled to invoice xarvio for the crop protection products specified by xarvio in the amount of the purchase price. 

02 - Will I remain a HEALTHY FIELDS contractor and will the contractual relationship be extended?

At the end of the season, the contractual relationship automatically expires on 31.12.2020. Therefore, no further notice of termination is required. However, if you are interested, we would be pleased to work with you again in the following season and to conclude a new contract.

01 - How is my data protected?

The protection of your privacy and your data is very important to us. Therefore, we work together exclusively with ISO-certified service providers. For example, our cloud provider is certified according to ISO 9001, 27001, 27017 and 27018, which guarantees outstanding data protection.

02 - Which data does the farmer provide for FIELD MANAGER, which data does xarvio provide?

The farmer enters the variety, the seeding date, the previous crop and the yield expectation. He can also adjust the growth stage and enter his infection observations. The risk of pests and diseases is then recalculated. xarvio provides the pest and disease forecasts and appropriate recommendations based on weather data. In addition, satellite images (up to 4 per week in the season) are generated in order to implement the variable application. 

03 - Which data does FIELD MANAGER uses to generate recommendations?

We collect data from various sources on plant nutrition, satellite images and soil and weather-related modelling. These data are supplemented by knowledge gained over the years on the effectiveness of e.g. crop protection products and field information such as variety and previous crop. We ensure that all information in the system are always up-to-date and reliable.
